Project Angel Food will honor Joseph Mannis at the 26th Annual Angel Awards Gala at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 922 Vine Street, Los Angeles, CA 90038. The event will also honor actress Lisa Rinna and 13th District LA Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell. NCIS star Pauley Perrette and Carson Kressley will be among the presenters. The gala will be held at Project Angel Food headquarters and the entire parking lot will be transformed into a magical dining space under the stars.
On Saturday, September 17, 2016, Joe Mannis, will receive PAF’s Volunteer of the Year Award. When notified by the Board of Directors of Project Angel Food that he was to receive the award Mannis said: “I am thankful for this honor and for this worthy adventure. Project Angel Food fills a vital need in all communities”.
Joe is currently Chairman of the Board for Project Angel Food after six years of service on PAF’s Board of Directors. Joe is also a founding partner of the firm of Hersh Mannis LLP, a 12 lawyer boutique practice focused on family law matters. Once a social worker for the City of Los Angeles prior to attending law school, Joe has represented dozens of actors, directors, film executives, musicians and artists of worldwide fame. He is married to Deborah Mannis and both share a love for contemporary art. Both are original “founders” of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (“MOCA”). Joe has represented numerous fine artists not only in family law matters, but also in all other aspects of their professional life for which a lawyer is needed.
Other awards to Mannis in 2016 include the Beverly Hills Bar’s Family Law Legend“ award and 2016’s Variety Legal Impact Report, the prestigious list of attorneys acknowledged for their innovation and impact on the industry in Los Angeles.
Since its inception, Project Angel Food has provided more than 10 million meals free of charge to people living with critical illness and continues to prepare over 10,000 meals a week. Over the years Project Angel Food has expanded its initial mission of serving people living with HIV/AIDS to also cook medically-tailored meals for men and women who are living with cancer, kidney failure, congestive heart failure and diabetes. The mission remains the same, to feed and nourish the sick as they battle debilitating illness by delivering healthy meals throughout Los Angeles County. Many clients are living well below the poverty line, and Project Angel Food is their lifeline.
Other honorees of the evening include: Lisa Rinna is a longtime supporter and volunteer of Project Angel Food. She currently stars in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Bravo. Mitch O’Farrell was a volunteer delivery driver for Project Angel Food for two years during the early ‘90s. Today he is the Councilmember for the 13th Council District and represents one of the most diverse districts in the city; including the neighborhoods of Atwater Village, Hollywood, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Glassell Park, Historic Filipinotown, Rampart Village and Silver Lake. Mitch was elected to office in May 2013.
