Sarah A. Thompson joined the firm of Hersh Mannis LLP in 2019, bringing well-rounded experience in the area of family law from her work in the Bay Area.  Ms. Thompson has handled cases involving complex financial issues as well as those involving high conflict custody matters, both as counsel to parties in mediation and in the courtroom.  Ms. Thompson is currently qualified for appointment as Minor’s Counsel in cases residing in Los Angeles County.

Ms. Thompson attended Villanova University, graduating magna cum laude with a major in Sociology and minors in French and Political Science.  She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco, graduating with honors, and earning numerous merit awards, including awards in Federal Income Taxation, Family Law, and Evidence.  Ms. Thompson also obtained a certificate in Public Interest Law.

Ms. Thompson’s passionate interest in juvenile justice began while still in law school, with an internship at the non-profit group, Legal Advocates for Children and Youth.  There, Ms. Thompson assisted with the legal challenges facing children who had been abused or neglected. She was also successful in obtaining a restraining order for a minor client and prevailing on a contested visitation hearing in Probate Court, as lead attorney.   Further contributions in this area of the law included a coveted internship with the Dependency Team in the Office of the City Attorney of San Francisco and work with the University of San Francisco’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice Clinic. Ms. Thompson also participated in the Intensive Advocacy Program where she learned essential trial skills from premier litigators and judges from across the county. It was during these experiences that she discovered a passion for helping families and an appreciation for trial work.

Prior to launching her career in family law, Ms. Thompson worked in finance as Junior Compliance Counsel at Sequoia Capital. This unique experience allowed her to gain an understanding of hedge funds, venture funds and employee benefits, which has proven advantageous in her family law practice. Prior to joining Hersh Mannis, Ms. Thompson also taught Legal Drafting as an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Francisco School of Law for two years.

Ms. Thompson is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  When she is not practicing law, she enjoys yoga, cooking and travel. She is also passionate about animal welfare and spends time with her rescue dog, a Malamute mix named Xena.
